Designing a work environment where technical performance goes hand in hand with occupant well-being was the challenge successfully met by gbi as part of the Louis-Charland Building project. Covering a total area of 325,000 sq. ft., the building consists of two towers ranging from 10 to 15 levels, connected by a glass atrium, and includes two levels of underground parking totaling 129,000 sq. ft.
This iconic building of the Société d’habitation de Montréal stands out for its human-centered design. The workspaces were arranged to maximize natural light, acoustic and thermal comfort, and a sense of community, notably through the inclusion of break rooms, coffee counters, and shared areas distributed across each floor.
Innovating for a sustainable future
As the first building in Quebec designed to LEED®-CI standards and certified LEED® Silver, the Louis-Charland Building perfectly demonstrates gbi’s commitment to sustainable engineering and exemplary energy performance. The project ranks among the largest LEED®-CI certified buildings in Canada.
Designed with an integrated sustainable development approach, the building focuses on energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and system durability. Optimizing natural light and workspace ergonomics creates a healthy, productive, and bright environment. Natural convection ventilation and high-performance glazing help reduce energy consumption while enhancing indoor comfort.
Through these innovative solutions, gbi reinforces its position as a leader in sustainable engineering, delivering buildings that are efficient, resilient, and future-ready.
