Antoine Fortier: Understanding, Designing, and Collaborating Every Day

Originally from Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Antoine Fortier has been immersed in the world of engineering since childhood. “My father is a mechanical engineer and my mother also studied engineering, so I grew up surrounded by technical discussions,” he says with a smile.

This family passion naturally led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, where he deepened his knowledge of applied sciences and became familiar with the challenges of building mechanics.

What attracted me to this profession is the variety and complexity of the projects. Building mechanics touches everything and requires a strong general knowledge. Each project is an opportunity to learn something new.

Since joining gbi in 2019, Antoine has highlighted the importance of teamwork and collaboration within the firm. “What I appreciate most is the team cohesion. Here, you feel valued and supported, which makes every workday enjoyable,” he adds.

Among the projects that have left a lasting impression, Antoine mentions the Centre de formation professionnelle (CFP) des Moulins in Mascouche, completed during the pandemic. “It was a complex project, particularly because it integrated the mechanical systems used by students enrolled in the stationary machinery mechanics program. Working on this project required a great deal of coordination and ingenuity, but seeing the final result and its impact on students was extremely rewarding,” he recalls.

What motivates Antoine on a daily basis is, above all, team spirit and the quality of human relationships. “At gbi, the work environment is exceptional: everyone collaborates fully and contributes positively to the atmosphere. It makes every day motivating and enriching,” he emphasizes.

Outside of work, Antoine has a true passion for urban gardening, particularly for optimizing space. A father of three, he enjoys making the most of his environment to grow a wide variety of plants, from heirloom tomatoes to more exotic foods. “Gardening is a moment of relaxation and creativity for me. I enjoy thinking about the best way to use the available space,” he explains. A greenhouse project is also planned for next year, an initiative the whole family is looking forward to bringing to life.

If Antoine had to describe gbi in three words, he would choose: human, skilled, and rooted. Values that reflect the spirit of a company deeply connected to its community.
