David Martel has followed a unique path before joining gbi, exploring software engineering, mechanical engineering, and eventually civil engineering. “I chose this discipline because, although it is often less highlighted, it remains essential, and its broad scope allows me to work on a wide range of projects.”

During his studies at Concordia University, he became actively involved in student associations, developing from the start a spirit of collaboration and leadership.
David particularly values the versatility of his role within the structural department, a position that allows him to break away from routine and take on many inspiring challenges. He actively participates in all stages of a project: from design and structural calculations to site supervision and execution. Ensuring the compliance of the work and serving as a technical reference for his colleagues are the aspects of his job he finds most motivating, allowing him to combine expertise, precision, and teamwork with the entire team.
From the moment he joined gbi, he noticed how essential availability and mutual support among colleagues are to successfully delivering a project. Today, he fully values this collaborative culture, where everyone can share their expertise and benefit from the diverse perspectives of the team.

Each project represents a new challenge and provides the opportunity to apply innovative solutions while working hand in hand with colleagues from complementary disciplines.
Contributing to his community: Mille-Voix Secondary School
Among his most notable projects at gbi, Mille-Voix Secondary School in Montréal-Nord holds a special place. For David, this project represents more than just a professional assignment: it is a direct contribution to the growth of his own neighborhood. “Being able to follow a project over three years, from initial design to full completion, and witness the tangible impact of our work on my community, was extremely motivating,” he says.
Three words to describe gbi
For David, gbi can be summed up in three words : dynamic, friendly, and growth-oriented, reflecting both the company’s strong work-life balance and the professional development opportunities it offers.
