A graduate of Laval University in electrical engineering with a power concentration, Jean-Simon, did not initially study automation during his university program. It was by joining gbi as an EIT in the Water department
that he discovered this field and developed his skills. “It wasn’t part of my curriculum, but I was fortunate to learn alongside passionate colleagues like Martin Gendron, who shared their knowledge and rigor with me.”
His connection with gbi began at a career event at the university. “The chemistry was immediate,” he recalls. “I felt that gbi offered an environment where I could learn, collaborate, and take on stimulating technical challenges.”
At gbi, he specializes in industrial automation and process control, particularly in drinking water and wastewater plants. “Each client has unique challenges, often with older, outdated systems. What I love is finding tailored solutions while maintaining constant communication with them.” What he enjoys most about his role? Human interaction. “I like talking with clients, putting them at ease, and making sure they feel heard,” he shares.
Versatile and curious, Jean-Simon also collaborates with the Energy and Industrial department, where automation plays a key role in energy performance and process control.

Always eager to learn, he continues to take related training courses and has a particular interest in home automation, a personal passion. “I find it fascinating to see how automation technologies can also transform our daily life at home.”
If he had to summarize gbi in three words?
Availability, mentorship, and collaboration. “Here, mentors are always available, and we learn a lot from each other. That’s what makes our team so valuable.”
