Centre de cancérologie of Laval

gbi is proud to have contributed to the development of the Laval Integrated Cancer Centre, a LEED® C+CB : New construction, silver certified project that combines energy performance, superior comfort, and compliance with the strict standards of the healthcare sector.

The project involved the construction of a new 7,275 m² building located at the southeast end of the Hôpital Cité-de-la-Santé site. A public and service corridor was integrated into the basement of the existing building to ensure smooth circulation and seamless integration with the existing infrastructure.

Distinctive Features and Sustainable Innovations

The LEED® C+CB : New construction, silver certification reflects the building’s exceptional indoor air quality and thermal comfort, while meeting the rigorous standards required in the healthcare sector.

To meet these standards, gbi implemented innovative energy solutions such as the use of 100 % geothermal energy for heating and cooling, heat recovery from specialized medical equipment through a tempered water network connected to the HVAC systems, and a thermal wheel for the preconditioning of fresh air. The building also features occupancy sensors in most rooms to optimize energy consumption, maximized natural lighting, variable frequency drive fans and pumps, and an electric steam boiler for humidification, allowing for optimal use of Hydro-Québec’s Rate L.

Le centre intégré de cancérologie de Laval perfectly demonstrates gbi’s ability to balance the requirements of the healthcare sector, construction standards, and sustainable innovations. This project highlights gbi’s commitment to designing high-performance, environmentally responsible infrastructure that prioritizes the comfort and safety of both patients and medical staff.
