The innovative design of Curé-Paquin School, part of the Mille-Îles School Service Centre (CSSMI) in Saint-Eustache, promotes academic success by integrating systems focused on quality of life: enhanced comfort, optimized ventilation, and localized temperature and humidity control. The result: a net-zero energy building.
Designed to exceed energy efficiency standards.
Aiming for LEED® Silver environmental standards, our teams integrated several technologies to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
At Curé-Paquin School, no fossil fuels are used, as all energy needs are met through electricity.
Geothermal wells, each 300 feet deep
kWh produced by the rooftop solar panels
$ saved annually through energy-saving measures

First school in Canada to be certified Net-Zero Carbon Building
The Net-Zero Carbon Building certification requires achieving an ambitious performance level for the Thermal Energy Demand Intensity (TEDI). This performance indicator is little known in Quebec and requires close collaboration with architects to promote passive heating. gbi took a true leadership role in this matter and worked with the architects while considering the specific factors affecting TEDI. Around ten energy models were conducted to find the balance between architectural needs and engineering requirements to meet the target of 34 kWh/m².
As part of the Net-Zero Carbon Building certification, a life cycle analysis had to be carried out. The gbi team worked diligently to produce this study in order to determine the amount of CO₂ emitted during the manufacturing, processing, and installation of construction materials.
