When it came time to redesign its workspaces, the engineering firm chose to rely on its own top talent for the job. Nearly 50 gbi experts were mobilized internally to design, plan, and oversee this large-scale project, which now hosts more than half of its talented team members.
Much more than just offices, it’s a hub for connection and collaboration, where top talent meets cutting-edge technology ! gbi’s new offices in Repentigny are targeting LEED® level Gold and WELL™ certifications.
A unifying space that fosters synergy between departments.
gbi chose to leave the ceilings exposed in most areas to showcase the mechanical design of the space.
Given the height and size of the space, acoustic comfort became a priority. We added a large suspended felt mesh and installed carpeted flooring to improve the acoustics of the open-plan work areas. Phone booths are also easily accessible to users. These choices align with the WELL™ certification objectives.

Building revitalization
The building’s revitalization goes beyond its walls and extends to the overall revitalization of the shopping center. By bringing new life to the space, gbi employees contribute to increased foot traffic at the mall, generating positive impacts for the local economy and the city. The mixed-use nature of the building also helps reduce user travel to access certain services. Choosing to revitalize an existing building also saves approximately 1,400 tons of carbon emissions by avoiding the construction of a new structure.
Material selection
A wide range of finishes was developed to create distinctive zones, each with its own unique character.
While respecting gbi’s colors, we combined various colors and textures to create the gbi HUB, a community space within the offices. Special attention was given to easily cleanable materials due to the high number of users in the spaces.
Finalist in the Quebec Consulting Engineering Awards
Energy efficiency
The bold decision to rehabilitate part of an existing building and implement energy-efficient systems has so far resulted in an impressive 70% reduction in the overall energy consumption of the space, despite a significant increase in space utilization.
Several innovative systems were used, including the implementation of a ventilation and air purification unit by adsorption, a first in Quebec. Previously tested in the space industry (this technology is used on the International Space Station), it was the subject of a demonstration project under Hydro-Québec’s Technological and Commercial Demonstration Program.
The gbi HUB was a project very close to our hearts. It was an opportunity to incorporate the best solutions available on the market. In everything we do, we always prioritize environmental protection and sustainable development. It was therefore only natural that the gbi HUB integrates the most recognized certifications in the field: LEED® and WELL™.
