Laurie-Eve-Cormier Aquatic Complex
Laurie-Eve-Cormier Aquatic Complex
2017

The Laurie-Ève-Cormier Aquatic Complex, completed in 2017, replaces the Pierre Laporte Sports Center, built in 1966, to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population. This modern and functional sports facility combines innovative design with respect for the region’s identity.
The complex features two 25-meter indoor pools, including a family pool with eight lanes and four diving boards, and a pool for competitive swimmers with ten lanes. It also includes a recreational pool, a judo room, a training room, changing rooms, and two saunas. The pools are overlooked by a walkway and bleachers with a seating capacity of 200. Administrative offices accommodate the Department of Leisure, Culture, and Community Life, as well as various municipal organizations.

Urban Integration and Heritage Enhancement
To enable the construction of this 5,260 m² complex, two-thirds of the Pierre Laporte Sports Center were demolished. The building’s placement within the urban fabric is strategic, providing two points of access: one via the main roadway and another pedestrian access from the town hall. The selection of materials and the dynamic colors of the curtain wall maximize natural light while creating a dialogue with the surrounding environment and the region’s cultural references, reinforcing the complex’s role as a cultural and sports landmark in Boucherville.
Architectural Features and Innovations
The project preserves the iconic appearance of the former sports center while incorporating technical and architectural innovations. The walls are covered with a colored vitreous ceramic coating with photocatalytic properties, enhancing energy efficiency and natural lighting. The design emphasizes sustainability, user comfort, and harmony with the urban environment.
