Water Booster Station – Saint-Jean-Chrysostome
Water Booster Station – Saint-Jean-Chrysostome
2022
Municipal

Between 2020 and 2022, gbi executed 100% of the mandate for the City of Lévis, including the design, plans and specifications, and construction supervision for a new water booster station in the Saint-Jean-Chrysostome area.
The station features a booster system with two 30 HP pumps and two 75 HP pumps, valves and piping including a pressure relief valve, a pump lifting system, the installation of an exterior soundproof generator, as well as all required ventilation, plumbing, electrical, control, and instrumentation works within a technical building.
Services Provided by gbi
To ensure project success, gbi provided a full range of services, including:
- Preliminary hydraulic study using Aquagéo modeling software to determine the optimal location for the new booster system and analyze the behaviour of the water network;
- Preliminary and final plans, specifications, and cost estimates;
- Partial construction supervision to ensure compliance and quality of the installations.

Technical and Operational Challenges
The project presented several significant technical and operational challenges. It was essential to maintain the water network in service throughout construction without interrupting service to users. The team also had to anticipate the impacts of the pumping system’s operation to prevent hydraulic issues such as overpressure or water hammer and to define scenarios for emergencies, power outages, or maintenance activities. Additionally, the impact of pressure changes on sprinkler systems and commercial equipment in the area needed to be carefully evaluated.
Solutions and Multidisciplinary Approach
Thanks to a multidisciplinary approach, gbi was able to secure the pressurized network while ensuring continuous service and meeting the highest technical and operational standards. This methodology balanced performance, safety, and network reliability, while minimizing impacts on users and the surrounding community.
