Saint-Philippe Wastewater Treatment Plant
Saint-Philippe Wastewater Treatment Plant
2025
Municipal

This project involved the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant for the City of Saint-Philippe, designed to modernize existing infrastructure and meet current and future treatment needs.
The new facility completely replaces the existing plant and introduces an efficient and sustainable treatment process. The plant is designed to treat 9,300 m³ of wastewater per day while effectively managing pollutant loads, including 615 kg/day of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5) and 740 kg/day of total suspended solids (TSS).
The treatment process includes several stages: screening, grit removal, biological treatment using a moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR), dissolved air flotation, UV disinfection, as well as sludge digestion and dewatering.
A Complex, Multidisciplinary Project
Delivered through seven construction packages, the project required the existing plant to remain operational throughout construction.
gbi’s teams were responsible for:
- biological process modelling
- complete multidisciplinary design
- preparation of plans and specifications
- stakeholder coordination
- construction supervision

An Integrated and Collaborative Approach
The success of this project relied on close collaboration across disciplines and a thorough understanding of the municipality’s needs. gbi supported the City at every stage, coordinating stakeholders and ensuring consistency across the proposed solutions.
The preselection of process equipment helped optimize the quality of the installations while providing greater cost control. In addition, the full integration of automation and control systems contributes to more efficient and reliable plant operations.
Solutions Designed for Performance and Safety
Particular attention was given to equipment durability and operator safety. The selection of corrosion-resistant components, integration of detection systems, and safe design of work areas help reduce risks and improve operating conditions.
The design choices also optimize the plant’s environmental performance, particularly through effective wastewater and sludge treatment, while reducing impacts on the receiving environment.
Sustainable Infrastructure for the Community
Through rigorous design and the use of appropriate technologies, the new wastewater treatment plant represents a significant infrastructure investment for the City of Saint-Philippe. It helps improve the quality of municipal services, support the community’s development, and provide lasting protection for the environment.
