Île Lebel Water Treatment Plant
Île Lebel Water Treatment Plant
2014
Municipal

Commissioned in 1997, the Île Lebel wastewater treatment plant manages the treatment of Repentigny’s sewage using a physico-chemical process with anaerobic digestion of sludge and dewatering through rotary presses.
gbi contributed to the design, modernization, and supervision of this strategic plant, demonstrating its expertise in municipal engineering, water treatment, and sustainable development.
Construction, renovation, and modernization of the wastewater treatment plant
The first phase of the project involved constructing the wastewater treatment plant and all associated sanitation infrastructure.
gbi managed the design, project management, and supervision of the works, including the installation of over three kilometers of interceptors and eight pumping stations with control and telemetry. The seven-kilometer discharge pipeline and the outfall were also constructed, along with the physico-chemical treatment plant, the first of its kind in Quebec, featuring two anaerobic digesters producing nearly 2,200 cubic meters of biogas per day. The coordination of technical disciplines such as process mechanical engineering, instrumentation and control, and structural engineering ensured compliance with technical and environmental standards.
The second phase involved modernizing the plant and adding a biological odor treatment system. The work included the installation of new fine screens with conveyors and compactors, the replacement of grit chambers and the internal mechanics of the clarifiers, the addition of rotary presses, and the rehabilitation of the anaerobic digesters. The control system and instrumentation were completely upgraded with over 500 process monitoring points and the commissioning of local and remote human-machine interfaces. Civil engineering works redesigned the traffic routes, secured access to the basins and hatches, and integrated the building expansion into the surrounding urban park.
This project perfectly illustrates gbi’s ability to execute large-scale municipal water treatment projects, integrating sustainable and innovative solutions to protect the environment and enhance the quality of life for citizens.
