Jean-R.-Marcotte Wastewater Treatment Plant
2025
Municipal

gbi has participated in several mandates at the Jean-R.-Marcotte Wastewater Treatment Plant, including a key mandate involving detailed engineering and construction supervision for the replacement of existing screens, compactors, and conveyors.
For the Montreal Wastewater Department, gbi also provided engineering services as part of the major infrastructure upgrade and improvement project, including work at the Jean-R.-Marcotte treatment plant, within the framework of the triennial capital program, in partnership with other engineering firms.
This treatment plant is one of the largest in Canada and, during rainfall events, is recognized as one of the largest in the world, with a hydraulic capacity of 84 m³/s.
Plant Upgrade and Modernization
gbi provided services to the City of Montreal in the disciplines of civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, automation, instrumentation and control, process, and telecommunications engineering to carry out studies, cost estimates, preparation of plans and specifications, and construction supervision.
- Work on critical infrastructure that had to remain operational during construction (major considerations for regulation and overflow structures).
- Compliance with the City of Montreal’s standards in design and execution of the works.
- Execution of mandates in collaboration with the City of Montreal’s engineers and experts.
- Multidisciplinary engineering services.
- Expertise in declassifying “explosion-proof” zones.

Replacement of Screens, Compactors, and Conveyors
The project involved carrying out preliminary studies followed by the design for the installation of new screening systems, including the preparation of preliminary and final plans and specifications.
The scope of the mandate and its multidisciplinary nature required coordination with various stakeholders throughout all phases of design and supervision.
The project was completed in accordance with the established schedule.
