Once again this year, Journée LET confirms its role as a must-attend event for professionals working in technical landfill sites (LET), residual materials management and environmental engineering across Québec.
The 7th edition, held on February 26 under the theme Gestion éclairée : s’adapter aux défis, bâtir l’avenir, brought together stakeholders committed to concrete, innovative and sustainable solutions. At gbi, we are proud to contribute to this forum for dialogue, with a constant desire to advance practices and actively participate in the discussions shaping the landfill and residual materials management sector.
Concrete projects to advance LET practices
The conferences presented throughout the day highlighted, through case studies and lessons learned, the importance of an informed understanding of key issues and proactive communication that fosters project acceptability, ultimately aiming to optimize operations at technical landfill sites.

Participants notably learned about :
- A solar energy park development project on a former landfill site in the MRC of Lac-Saint-Jean
- The development and construction of a renewable natural gas (RNG) production plant at the Sainte-Sophie LET
- The expansion of the Hébertville-Station LET and the steps leading to the project’s social acceptability
- The integration of GPS systems in LET operations to increase productivity, efficiency and safety
- Issues related to PFAS and geosynthetic barrier systems
- Strategies to mitigate impacts associated with increasingly stringent leachate discharge criteria
These conferences, combined with group discussions, made this edition a valuable forum for reflection, firmly rooted in the operational realities of Québec’s LET sites.
Conferences by our experts
Among the speakers, two members of the gbi team shared their expertise.

Kenny Lalonde, Industrial Process Engineer, presented the conference Suivre la trace des polluants : quand la simulation révèle l’invisible.
His presentation highlighted the contribution of atmospheric modelling and simulation to better understand contaminant behaviour and support informed decision-making in the context of LET operations.

Ève Fournier, Engineer and Project Coordinator in residual materials management, delivered the conference Transformer les enjeux actuels en leviers de résilience.
She emphasized the importance of an integrated and strategic approach to support LET operators in addressing regulatory, climate and operational challenges.
Alongside the other speakers and participants, we are proud to have contributed to the discussions. We warmly thank the organizers for the quality of the event, all speakers for the generosity of their insights, and every participant for the richness of the exchanges.
Journée LET truly reflects the way we practice engineering: with rigour, openness and collaboration, in the service of sustainable and responsible solutions.
