gbi is proud to announce that the Rimouski student housing project developed for UTILE has received the Award of Excellence in the Project Management category at the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois 2026.
This distinction recognizes a meaningful project that provides a concrete solution to a major student housing challenge in the Rimouski region. Delivered in a context of urgent need, the project provided 155 affordable housing units for students in just 15 months.
Collaboration at the Heart of Success
Beyond its technical achievements, it was the project’s management approach that made this exceptional accomplishment possible. From the outset, an integrated team bringing together UTILE, gbi, Industries Bonneville, Blouin Beauchamp Architectes and HUDL was established to support rapid decision-making and continuous coordination among all stakeholders.
Inspired by the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model, this collaborative approach helped eliminate traditional silos, optimize planning and ensure seamless integration between design, off-site module manufacturing and on-site construction. Thanks to the close collaboration among all project partners, the team successfully met an extremely demanding schedule while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Beyond its project management achievements, this development directly improves quality of life and access to education for many students. It also serves as a tangible example of how innovation, collaboration and engineering can effectively address important social challenges.
