Pie-X Park
2026
Municipal

Located in the heart of Laval’s Chomedey district, Pie-X Park underwent a major redevelopment project to transform this important community gathering place into a modern, accessible, and vibrant public space.
The project provided the community with new recreational and sports facilities designed to meet the needs of residents while enhancing the quality of life throughout the neighbourhood.
A Park Reimagined for the Community
The project completely modernized the park’s infrastructure through the construction of a new four-season park pavilion, a covered refrigerated outdoor skating rink, aquatic facilities including a swimming pool, wading pool and splash pad, a synthetic soccer field, as well as new playgrounds and fitness areas designed for users of all ages.
Designed as a true community gathering place, the park now features year-round recreational facilities that encourage sports, leisure and community activities.
As part of this multidisciplinary mandate, gbi provided civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services throughout the project.
Designed for Functionality and Sustainability
The new four-season park pavilion was designed to meet the evolving needs of users while ensuring the efficient operation of the park’s facilities. It includes welcoming public spaces, universal changing rooms, administrative offices and the mechanical equipment required to support both the outdoor skating rink and the aquatic facilities.
Generous glazing maximizes natural daylight, creating a bright and welcoming environment while enhancing users’ sense of safety. Particular attention was given to universal accessibility, user safety, the seamless integration of the new infrastructure within the surrounding residential neighbourhood, and sustainable stormwater management through retention and bioretention systems.
The project also revitalized the park’s outdoor spaces with sustainable landscaping featuring plant species adapted to Québec’s climate. New lighting was installed to improve safety while minimizing light pollution.
Street furniture, pedestrian and cycling pathways, bicycle racks and repair stations were also incorporated to encourage active transportation and create welcoming spaces for the entire community.
A Sustainable Project for the Community
Thanks to this redevelopment, Pie-X Park has become a vibrant community destination where sports, recreation and social gatherings come together. This project highlights gbi’s multidisciplinary expertise in designing sustainable, functional municipal infrastructure that enhances quality of life and meets the evolving needs of communities.
