The gbi team participated in the expansion and renovation of Fraternité Elementary School, operated by the Centre de services scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île (CSSPI), providing mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and industrial hygiene services.
The 2,700 m² expansion, spread over three floors, includes 17 elementary classrooms, 5 preschool classrooms, a double gymnasium, a multipurpose room and a library. The design aims to provide spaces adapted to the needs of the school community while incorporating high-performance and energy-efficient technical solutions.
A geothermal solution for a high-performance building
One of the project’s key features is its geothermal energy system. Heating and cooling for the building are provided entirely by a network of 28 geothermal wells, allowing the facility to harness energy from the ground to maintain occupant comfort.
The spaces are ventilated, heated and cooled using air-to-water heat pumps combined with a reverse-airflow heat recovery unit. This approach helps optimize the building’s energy consumption while ensuring air quality and comfort suited to a school environment.
The project was also developed using BIM and Revit, facilitating interdisciplinary coordination and optimizing the design of the mechanical and electrical systems.
