Des Sommets School

Awards and Recognitions

gbi contributed to the construction of Sommets Elementary School in Mascouche by providing civil and structural engineering services.

Developed for the Centre de services scolaires des Affluents (CSSDA), this modern elementary school project focuses on sustainable design, harmonious integration with the surrounding wooded environment, and the creation of spaces that promote the well-being of students and staff.

Spread over three floors to minimize its footprint, the school accommodates 26 elementary classrooms and 6 preschool classrooms within a bright, functional environment adapted to the needs of the school community. Its design promotes a strong connection with nature through the integration of biophilic principles, protected outdoor spaces, and areas that encourage interaction and learning.

A sustainable school focused on user well-being

The architectural concept places strong emphasis on natural materials and the connection with the surrounding environment. Wood is used for both the exterior cladding and interior finishes, helping create warm and welcoming spaces. The school also includes a multipurpose room, a two-story library, and a triple gymnasium designed to meet educational and community needs.

Outdoor spaces support learning beyond the classroom through the integration of an outdoor classroom, a community entrance plaza, gathering areas inspired by the agora concept, and a 3,500 m² schoolyard designed to offer diverse environments for students.

Civil engineering solutions tailored to the project’s needs

gbi’s teams provided civil engineering design services, including site development, infrastructure networks, and stormwater management solutions. To ensure effective rainwater management, the project incorporates retention tanks and oversized pipes to control water discharge rates.

The work also included the design of an 80-space parking lot for staff, a bus drop-off area, and dedicated parent parking areas, ensuring safe and efficient circulation around the school.
