Infrastructure beneath the Achigan River

Infrastructure beneath the Achigan River

Located in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan, the project focused on rehabilitating critical infrastructure crossing the river between Rang Saint-Charles and Rue Masson. Approximately 175 metres of pipelines were replaced, including a failed sanitary sewer line in an area prone to soil instability and landslides.

The work also included stabilizing the riverbank and securing a sensitive zone near residential properties. The replacement of the existing storm outfall improved water discharge into the river.

Challenges and Technical Approach

The project involved several key challenges:

  • Limited work corridor between residential properties
  • In-water construction requiring flow management
  • Installation of pipes on steep slopes
  • Landslide risk mitigation

To address these challenges, specific measures were implemented, including the use of cofferdams and pumping systems to control river flow, as well as an integrated slope stabilization strategy combining grading, controlled backfill, and revegetation.
