The reallocation of spaces in the east wing of the Roger-Gaudry Pavilion is part of a large-scale project aimed at modernizing and optimizing an iconic building on the Montréal campus. This mandate spans several years and includes major demolition and reconstruction activities.
The project is structured into three main phases: an initial seismic study, followed by a demolition phase, and finally a reconstruction and structural optimization phase.
From the earliest stages, our team was involved in design and planning activities, including asbestos removal, geotechnical and geothermal studies, as well as the development of plans and specifications. The demolition phase, initiated in 2022, was carried out using a traditional delivery method under the direction of the architects, with targeted interventions such as the dismantling of secondary steel structures, the installation of new drainage infrastructure, and site preparation works.
The reconstruction phase, which began in 2024, is based on a construction management approach enabling close monitoring of the work and efficient coordination among the various stakeholders. Our contribution focuses primarily on structural aspects, ensuring that interventions are compatible with the project’s multidisciplinary requirements. This includes slab openings for mechanical and electrical systems, the integration of support structures for electromechanical equipment, and the upgrading of existing structural elements to current standards. Several major interventions were also completed, including the renovation and code compliance upgrades of various emergency staircases, as well as the construction of new exit routes.
This mandate demonstrates the team’s ability to deliver complex projects within existing buildings, balancing technical performance, collaboration, and rigor.
