gbi is proud to have won first place in the Major Project category at the FIDIC Gala in Cape Town for the integrated energy transfer loop system developed for the Royalmount commercial building. This prestigious competition recognizes excellence in the development and delivery of projects around the world.

As the lead engineer, the solution proposed by gbi is based on two interconnected energy transfer loops that optimize energy sharing between buildings according to the specific needs of each space. With 150 geothermal wells reaching depths of 600 feet, renewable energy—geothermal and hydroelectricity—supplies 86% of the project’s required needs within a highly densified environment.
“This international award recognizes our ability to design concrete and innovative energy solutions that address the challenges of modernity. My greatest pride is that, as a team, we achieved all the objectives set while showcasing the expertise of Québec engineering. Since this is a concept that can be replicated for both buildings and entire districts, we are optimistic about adapting it for other projects worldwide.” — Serge Beaudoin, Eng., President and Lead Designer of the Energy Transfer Loop
“The Royalmount project embodies a vision that goes far beyond the construction of a shopping center, inspiring a paradigm shift toward carbon-neutral, efficient, and community-centered infrastructure.” — Pierre-Samuel Beaudoin, Eng., Vice President, Strategic Advisory Services

This international recognition follows a distinction received on September 22, 2025, highlighting the excellence and diversity of projects carried out by gbi. The firm stood out at the Grands Prix du génie québécois gala of the Association des firmes de génie-conseil du Québec, winning an Award of Excellence in the Building Structure category for the Awacak Okiskinohamatowikamikowaw School project in Manawan.
Together, we are building an inspiring future founded on innovation and collaboration.
