gbi shines at the National Consulting Engineering Awards Gala

gbi is very pleased to announce that it has won two prestigious awards at the National Awards Gala of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada (ACEC), recognizing the excellence and impact of its projects on a national scale.

Award of Excellence – Awacak Okiskinohamatowikamikowaw School

gbi received a first-place award for the construction of the Awacak Okiskinohamatowikamikowaw elementary school in Manawan, a landmark project for the Atikamekw community. This new school, designed to meet the educational and cultural needs of the community, provides a modern, safe, and resilient environment that promotes learning and the transmission of traditional knowledge. Through an integrated approach and the active involvement of community members, gbi delivered a sustainable infrastructure, powered by geothermal energy, that has become a true gathering place and a source of pride for future generations.

This project was also recognized at the Grands Prix du génie-conseil du Québec, organized by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of Québec, winning the Award of Excellence in the Building Structure category.

Award of Excellence – Energy Transfer Loops at Royalmount

The second award recognizes the Royalmount energy transfer loop project for its innovative approach to sustainable development and energy efficiency. As the lead engineer, gbi designed and implemented a dual energy transfer loop system—the first of its kind in Canada—optimizing energy sharing between buildings. This solution achieves a 30.9% reduction in energy consumption and a 93% reduction in GHG emissions compared to a conventional shopping center.

This distinction is further complemented by the international recognition gbi received at the Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseils (FIDIC) Gala in Cape Town in September 2025, highlighting the firm’s ability to design concrete and innovative solutions that address the challenges of modernity.

These awards highlight our teams’ commitment to building more sustainable and inclusive communities while showcasing Québec engineering expertise. We are proud to contribute to projects that improve quality of life and inspire the future. — Serge Beaudoin, Eng., President of gbi
